Witches & Warlocks

Sixteen ninety-two was a time long ago that most of us barely have reason to remember. But during that time, a few men and women of Massachusetts were enduring trials and being branded… as witches. They say, that these people sent the young girls of Salem into fits similar to seizures, and that they pricked them with pins despite never touching them. They were rumored to have made pacts with the devil, that enhanced their powers and spells. In that year alone, over the span of four months, nineteen people were found guilty and executed. More than seventy others were involved in some way, and not all of them made it through alive. Some were even said to have exacted revenge on their persecutors through curses preformed shortly before their demise.

In modern times, witches are an intriguing topic for many famous novels, movies, television shoes, and musical endeavors. The mystery that surrounds them, and the possibility that their magic might be real excites and interests us no matter what stage of life we may be in. So it’s no wonder that so many people dress up as witches (or warlocks) for Halloween each year. The traditional idea of a witch is an old women, covered in warts, and sporting a large hooked nose, and dressing that way for Halloween could be fun way to support classic stories and films. (For example, you could get a friend to accompany you dressed as Snow White, and tempt her with poison apples.) But if you wanted to go a more modern route there are plenty of ways to portray one of these powerful spell-wielders.

Their uncanny ability they have to use magic could land you in a tight spot if you ever crossed a genuine witch. My good friend James suffered such a fate, but they were kind enough to deliver him to me once they had finished. I keep him in a jar these days, and feed him flies.

That is all for now…
