THE ADDAMS FAMILYYYY!

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

I’m getting all geared up for Halloween, it’s just around the corner. I can almost here the creepy crawlies calling my name and some spooky coyotes howling at the moon.
Nothing gets me more in the mood for Halloween than some good ol’ fashioned classics like the Addam’s Family. That zaney family never tires and always brings out the best in Halloween spirit! Each cast member fit so well for their role. The munsters came before the Addam’s family but i really enjoyed the Addam’s family the best of all!

Lurch would always open the door and say “You rannnnggg” and he’d have such a daunting scary voice, but he had a humerous way about him too. Morticia was simply divine, she was so dark but such a great housewife. Pugsley and Wednesday were the perfect dark duo, always playing deathly tricks on each other. I particularly loved Wednesday’s costume! It was so simple but dark and spooky.

I also really, really love the theme song. It brings back so many nostalgic memories. The finger snaps at the beginning are the best.

Gandalf – Lord of the Rings

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Gandalf the Grey, an immortal being, is a wizard, one of the five Istari (i.e. “wise” in Kvenian) and a maiar. Before coming to Middle-earth (T.A. 1000) like any other maiar he was subject to the Volar. He can appear both in visible and invisible form.

Gandalf is also known as Mithrandir (i.e. “grey wanderer” in Sindarin) and Olyrin, a name given to him in Valinor. In “The Silmarillion” wisest of the Maiar was Olyrin who dwelt in Lyrien. His ways took him often to the house of Nienna, and of her he learned pity and compassion. This gives grounds to believe that Gandalf and Olyrin was one and the same person. In Middle-earth the wizard sympathized with the weak and those who heard his prayers were awakened from despair and ceased thinking about Evil. In “The Silmarillion” very little is said about the wizard but “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” definitely shed more light on his personality.

Gandalf dwells in different parts of Middle-earth. And many are his names in many countries. The elves call him Mithrandir, the dwarves – Tharkun, the haradrims – Incanus. It is hobbits and the Rangers of the North who called him Gandalf. He has a number of nicknames: Gandalf Greyhame, StormCrow, the White Rider, the Grey Wanderer and the Grey Fool. Most likely that by the latter he was “christened” by his ill-wishers as Gandalf is wisdom itself. Like Frodo, he is Tolkien’s favourite personage.

Gandalf’s outfit looks like a stereotypical wizard. Gandalf would be an interesting and unique costume for anyone this Halloween season.

Goblin Feet Recipe

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Your children can probably imagine what actual goblin feet would taste like. (Dirty socks stuffed with cheese? Moldy tapioca pudding?) Luckily, these cookies are infinitely more tasty.

Ingredients
  • Half package (7 ounces) green meltable candy wafers
  • peanut butter cookies, such as Nutter Butter brand
  • cashew halves
Instructions
  1. Follow the instructions on the candy wafer package to melt the wafers in a wide bowl. For each goblin foot, hold the edge of a cookie and dip it in the melted candy.
  2. Place the cookie on a sheet of waxed paper and use a spoon to smooth the candy over the spot your fingers covered.
  3. Place three cashew halves on the cookie for claws. (The candy may need to cool a minute or two for it to be stiff enough to hold the nuts in place.) Let the cookies set at room temperature.

This is something the whole family can enjoy. This recipe comes from familyfun.com. These are some fun Monster Feet props to go with the cookies and a scary Halloween costume. These feet are sure to make this Halloween one to remenber!!  Happy baking/cooking and Happy Halloween everyone!!!
